The Steel Curtain - Media Day

Kennywood’s newest attraction is more than just a new ride, it’s a statement. The Steel Curtain stands 220ft above the ground and can be seen far before you get in line for this record-breaking ride. Built by S&S Sansei Technologies, the coaster dominates the park’s skyline as the bright yellow supports and shining black track tower above tree line. Like the football team Kennywood partnered with to bring both the theme of the ride to life along with the soon to open Steelers Country area of the park, The Steel Curtain is bold, intimidating, and packs a relentless punch. the park invited media and VIP members to come and enjoy this ride ahead of its July 13th opening to the public.

The event started with an opening ceremony with members of the parks management, Steelers legends, and important political members from the West Mifflin area and across the Pittsburgh area. The Steelers legends were the first to take their seats and prepare to take on The Steel Curtain and its world record setting 197ft tall inversion making it the tallest in the world! Right before that element, you also break another record by riding the tallest coaster in Pennsylvania. The tallest inversion in the world is also a small part of a more impressive record 9 inversions, the most of any ride in North America. We were excited to fasten our seatbelts on the very football-themed trains.

The ride is absolutely relentless as it powers you through all 9 inversions with impressively strong pops of both ejector and floater airtime! All of the inversions are incredibly smooth and at times it feels like you are actually gaining speed, especially as you take on the top gun stall over the midway as guests below look up to see the shiny black streak race back into Steelers Country.

Be sure to check out Kennywood and ride The Steel Curtain this summer!! Thank you to the park for their generosity and for putting on an incredible event. The most anticipated ride of 2019 definitely lived up to the hype!
